Spherical air bearings provide frictionless, unconstrained motion for various applications. These bearings come in a variety of standard sizes and can be easily integrated into your current processes. Our spherical air bearings are formed using porous media technology, supporting the spheres on a rigid air cushion. The spherical cups can also be vacuum preloaded to enhance positioning accuracy. All air bearings from New Way are made from porous carbon-based materials. Millions of submicron channels weave through the material, naturally restricting air flow and leaving a uniform, rigid air cushion on the bearing surface. Because the pores are evenly distributed across the bearing surface, unlike orifice air bearings, pressure gradients never occur, making collisions a thing of the past.
Radial air bearings use a thin (5µm) air layer to provide non-contact support for rotating circular workpieces. This thin air layer is very rigid (over 160,000 pounds/inch), providing stable support for the ring or bearing surface while allowing surface speeds of up to 50 meters per second. New Way radial air bearings can be configured for a given application using a radius cut along the bearing length (L) or width (W), utilizing concave and convex shapes, and can operate on the outer or inner diameter of the rotating workpiece, depending on your structural requirements. The bearings are specially machined to achieve the precision tolerances required for non-contact motion.
Flat rectangular air bearings are placed alongside flat circular air bearings. By utilizing our foundational porous media technology™, flat rectangular air bearings achieve true frictionless motion by gliding over the guide rail surface on a thin air layer of 5 microns.
Air bushings are ideal for applications based on rotating or linear shafts and can be found in places where precise motion is required. Our air bushings provide a frictionless alternative to ball bearings by utilizing our proprietary porous media technology™.
Air spindles provide a frictionless alternative to spindle solutions based on magnetic force, oil, or bearings. By utilizing our Porous Medium Technology™, we create a thin air cushion between the rotor and stator, eliminating subsynchronous motion and reducing asynchronous errors by several orders of magnitude.
Air bars provide air bearing solutions for conveyors. By using our proven porous media technology™, large substrates (such as glass) are conveyed through a thin and rigid air layer without contacting the bearing surface. This patented technology offers a level of precision that cannot be achieved with traditional or plate-based designs.
